Ronnie Laws - Friends & Strangers + Flame
Expansion Records and Jazz FM have joined forces to bring you two of the finest albums of the jazz fusion genre. Ronnie Laws was an early member of Earth Wind & Fire and a jazz funk pioneer who first made his mark as a solo artist with the iconic “Always There” for Blue Note in 1975. His distinctive, signature playing style is extremely soulful, sophisticated and easily identifiable. Ronnie Laws retained a connection with his former group through an affiliation with keyboard whiz Larry Dunn whose intense playing on both these albums is a perfect backdrop for Ronnie’s superior saxophone and unique vocal style.
Both these albums are classic are rare on CD, exchanging hands for hundreds of pounds each on the 2nd hand market if you can find them.
“Friends & Strangers” is produced by Wayne Henderson following his initial departure from The Crusaders to form his new At Home Productions company. “Flame” continues the flavour and recaptures much of the magic it’s predecessor to make this a perfect coupling from a golden era of jazz funk and soul.
