The Big Easy with Lil' Koko
Lil' Koko is a London-based DJ and expert on the music and culture of New Orleans - let her be your guide to one of the most fascinating music cities on the planet - every Wednesday Night at 9pm.
The New Orleans specialist cut her teeth with a three year residency at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club hosting the explosive 'Thursday Mardi Gras’ nights. Spinning rare New Orleans 50’s RnB, funk and soul with a few detours into the sweaty Bayous of Louisiana, she toured Europe bringing the rich musical history of New Orleans to the masses. Heavily influenced by Tennessee Williams and literature from the Deep South, DJ Lil’ Koko (Kate Pieroudis) spent a sabbatical in New Orleans and Cuba in 2010 digging through vaults of New Orleans record shops for buried vinyl treasures, befriending musicians and interviewing cultural icons. Returning each year since, she lives and breathes the culture of this enigmatic city.
She has curated massive Mardi Gras parties- ‘Mardi Gras Pop Brixton’; a day to night immersive New Orleans festival, set in old sea containers-turned into the iconic French Quarter where she co-curated bands, live art, New Orleans film and photography. As co-founder of ‘Mardi Gras Mambo’ with piano supremo Dom Pipkin, this collective organised rollicking authentic New Orleans parties packing hundreds into a tropical warehouse space in Hackney.
A born and bred Londoner, she has opened for a host of New Orleans acts touring through London- The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Soul Rebels and spun for master bassist George Porter Jr and drummer Zigaboo Modelliste of The Meters. She has a monthly residency at Nightjar, London - widening her repertoire to the Swing and jump-jive sounds to match this hidden, internationally acclaimed speakeasy bar.
