Award-winning jazz singer Ian Shaw is also an accomplished radio presenter. He has been hosting The Ronnie Scott’s Radio Show since 2012, bringing his knowledgeable, witty and engaging style to the show. The Ronnie Scott's Radio Show takes us backstage at the world famous jazz club with Ian bringing us interviews, special moments and live recordings from the club.
Over the years Ian has made many appearances on radio including guest-presenting Dinner Jazz for us, presenting for the BBC (Big Band Special, Radio 2) as well as being a frequent compere for broadcast events including the Jazz FM Awards in 2013 and “Miles Symphonic”, live from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom for Radio 3 in 2012.
Ian performs regularly at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and has done so since the early 90s when he was encouraged as a jazz singer by Ronnie Scott himself. He began his career a decade earlier on the Alternative Cabaret Circuit, alongside comedians Julian Clary, Rory Bremner and Jo Brand while also playing in piano bars in the UK and internationally. Now with more than a dozen albums to his name, he is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive, original and creative jazz singers that the UK has produced, as well as being a talented pianist, song writer and record producer. He is much in demand as the featured soloist with big bands and orchestras both in the UK and abroad, alongside pairings with the likes of Guy Barker, Sarah-Jane Morris, Liane Carroll and Claire Martin and over the years has also worked with Quincy Jones, Abdullah Ibrahim, Cleo Laine, Kenny Wheeler, John Taylor, Nigel Kennedy and The Who’s Pete Townsend.
As an actor, Ian has performed in ‘Jerry Springer: The Opera’ in the role of the warm-up man/devil and was featured in the award winning British film Pierrepoint (Granada Films). In the late 2000s, Ian returned to comedy, touring with Rory Bremner and in 2012, he performed his one-man show 'A Bit of a Mouthful' all over the UK including the Edinburgh Festival.
