Tributes to musician, artist and cultural icon David Bowie, who died on Sunday aged 69, have been made around the world.

The legendary British artist passed away after an 18-month battle with cancer.

Just three days ago, he released his jazz-infused final album ‘Blackstar’, featuring saxophonist Donny McCaslin, pianist Jason Lindner, bassist Tim Lefebvre and drummer Mark Giuliana (who was recently named one of the top ten drummers in the world) and guitarist Ben Monder.

Bowie was a long time jazz fan and saxophonist himself - reportedly, aged 14, he couldn’t decide if he wanted ‘to be a rock’n’roll singer or John Coltrane’.

Reaction on social media has shown how his influence crossed many music boundaries. Listen below to award-winning British pianist Neil Cowley telling Jazz FM about meeting the iconic musician, the impact on his own music, and why he considers David Bowie ‘an honorary jazz musician’.
