Quincy Jones’ Qwest TV service set for launch

The so called ‘Netflix of Jazz’ hit nearly double its fundraising target

Quincy Jones and his team have announced that the Qwest TV service will launch this Friday 15th December. Through crowdfunding, they raised nearly $170,000 (double the target) earlier this year to launch the so called ‘Netflix of jazz’ featuring music programmes, concerts, documentaries and interviews. Subscribers to the service will also be given playlists subscriptions. It’s all set to start with a concert on Friday night in Paris with one of Quincy’s protégé musicians Jacob Collier performing live, alongside Cheick Tidiane Seck, Moh Kouyaté, Magic Malik, Mederic Collignon (performing a special Quincy Jones tribute), and Sylvain Luc.

“I have witnessed first-hand the power of jazz – and all of its off-spring from the blues and R&B to pop, rock and hip-hop, to tear down walls and bring the world together. I believe that a hundred years from now, when people look back at the 20th century, they will view Bird, Miles and Dizzy as our Mozarts, Bachs, Chopins and Tchaikovskys,” says Quincy Jones, “It’s my hope that Qwest TV will serve to carry forth and build on the great legacy that is jazz for many generations to come.”
