Jazz FM and Deezer curate new ‘Jazz Stories’ radio strand

The partners will delve into music history exploring five iconic labels

Global music streaming service Deezer has exclusively partnered with Jazz FM, to launch the new ‘Jazz Stories’ radio strand. Each week, a Jazz FM presenter will discuss the fascinating history of five iconic jazz labels, slotted into playlists of exceptional, hand-picked jazz.

The first ‘Jazz Stories’ playlist kicks off with Helen Mayhew discussing Universal’s record label ‘Impulse!’. In between every track, Helen’s commentary includes facts on the label’s inception, the track’s history and the artist. Music includes pieces from legendary John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Michael Brecker.

The second episode explores the history of Blue Note (Universal) and is hosted by Chris Philips including music from heritage artists like Art Blakey and Thelonious Monk then right up to 2018 with contemporary stars such as Gregory Porter and Robert Glasper.

More episodes will come from presenters including Jez Nelson and David Freeman, and there will be a chance to hear the stories behind Colombia (Sony), Atlantic (Warner) and ECM (Universal).
