Japanese jazz trio recognised as the World's oldest band

Japan's Golden Trio has been officially given the Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest active band. They have an average age of 83 years.

A Japanese jazz trio has been officially given the Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest active band. They have an average age of 83 years.

The Golden Senior Trio are 89 year old vibraphonist Naoteru Nabeshima, 81 year old pianist Zensho Otsuka and bassist Naosuke Miyamoto who is 79.

As well as playing in their own groups they formed the trio in 2008 in by public demand. To qualify for the record the Trio had to proove that they have played more than 20 gigs in a five year period. The previous record was held by a band from China who had an average age of 76 years.
