Ronnie Scott’s jazz club continues its ‘Centre Stage’ series of masterclasses with a unique opportunity to see Cory Henry, renowned regular member of Snarky Puppy and more recently his band ‘The Funk Apostles’.
An afternoon session on Monday 16th November 2015 will comprise Cory demonstrating some of his musical techniques, talking about his influences and musical career to date plus a Q&A session at the end.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Cory Henry spent much of his time in the local church, which had a large community of musicians and it was there he began playing organ at the age of two. At nineteen he joined jazz legend alto saxophonist Kenny Garrett’s touring band as his organist. He released his own his debut album in 2010 and recently a celebrated solo album of tight, powerful fusion grooves called 'First Steps'. Henry has also worked with producer P. Diddy, Gospel artist Kirk Franklin, Robert Glasper, Lalah Hathway, Derrick Hodge, Donnie McClurkin, Michael McDonald, Boyz II Men, rapper Nas, The Roots, Betty Wright and of course Grammy winning Snarky Puppy with whom he is currently touring.
