The iconic Blue Note Records are hosting two free drop-in events this week during EFG London Jazz Festival at Ace Hotel, Shoreditch in London.

The iconic Blue Note Records are hosting two free drop-in events this week during EFG London Jazz Festival at the Ace Hotel, Shoreditch in London. It’s a music imprint with a rich 75 year history, as commemorated in author Richard Havers’ beautiful new book ‘Blue Note: Uncompromising Expression’. The events will also serve as pre-concert warm up for the live music performances at the festival from top line acts on the Blue Note roster and will give fans a chance to meet the stars and win coveted merchandise.

Author Richard Havers will be hosting an early evening talk all about Blue Note Records and his new book. The label’s moto is, ‘The Finest in Jazz Since 1939’. Richard’s book celebrates over seven decades of extraordinary music from a company that has stayed true to its founders’ commitment to ‘Uncompromising Expression’. The talk will unravel the label’s rich history as a story, great for the jazz-curious or to deepen the love of the already converted. There will be a talk by the author, Q&As, music from the Blue Note archives, competitions, giveaways and more.
 
Friday 21st November [17:30 until 19:00]

Hosted by author Richard Havers and radio presenter & Jazz FM’s Chris Philips, this free event will be an early evening event all about Blue Note Records. Chris and Richard will discuss their love of Blue Note, the music, the men behind the label, the rich history and story of the jazz movement that it created in its wake, the art of the LP sleeves, and they will of course be playing some of their favourite Blue Note tracks. Joining them on the evening will be the artists performing in the Blue Note 75th celebration show on the 22nd including Robert Glasper, Jason Moran, Kendrick Scott, Lionel Loueke, Marcus Strickland, Ambrose Akinmusire and Derrick Hodge with more competitions and giveaways.
