Big names gather for Kenny Wheeler public send off

A grand public memorial service for trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer Kenny Wheeler will take place in London this Friday.

As previously reported here a memorial service for trumpeter, flugelhorn player and composer Kenny Wheeler will take place in London this Friday. More details have now been published. The event is open to the public with seating for 400 inside. An epic eight piece musical homage is planned, organised by Nick Smart - Head Of Jazz at the Royal Academy of Music.

It’s a mark of just how well respected Wheeler is in the jazz community that performers include Reuben Fowler, Evan Parker, Stan Sultzmann, Julian Argüelles, Gwilym Simcock, John Parricelli, Henry Lowther, Norma Winstone, Martin France, Nikki Iles, Mark Lockheart, Nick Smart and many more.

The music will be punctuated by guest speakers, friends and colleagues.
