Avery Sunshine sings for Aretha on her birthday

Jazz FM favourite Avery Sunshine performed for the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin at her 73rd birthday party in New York this week.

Jazz FM favourite Avery Sunshine described it as, ”the highlight of my career to date" when she performed for the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin at her 73rd birthday party this week.

Avery and partner Dana Johnson performed a 6-song set at the party, held at New York’s Central Park Ritz-Carlton Hotel. Aretha specially requested that Avery sing her recent Billboard R&B No 1 hit ‘Call My Name’ and she used her phone to video some of the set.  

Afterwards Aretha shared some of her “top secret” tips on vocal longevity and health with Avery.

Avery returns to the UK to play at London's Jazz Cafe on August 28th, Rye International Jazz Festival August 29th and The Great British Rhythm & Blues Festival in Colne, Lancashire August 30th.
