WHERE RIO DE JANEIRO MEETS BAHIA: Edmundo Carneiro & Mario Bakuna
Sunday, July 7th
Brazilian musician, arranger and composer Mario Bakuna has recently released his new album Where Rio de Janeiro meets Bahia. It is a journey to Rio de Janeiro, the birthplace of Bossa Nova, and Bahia, the city that best represents the powerful African influence in Brazilian music. He recorded this album alongside Edmundo Carneiro a renowned Brazilian percussionist based in Paris for over 30 years, who has performed alongside names like Tania Maria, Baden Powell, Chuco Valdez, and many others.
Bakuna has been based in London for 6 years. Since moving to London he's played festivals and venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express, Toulouse Lautrec, Rich Mix, and the Jazz Cafe, just to name a few.
Mario Bakuna and Edmundo Carneiro integrate the rhythmic roots of Brazilian music and its sophisticated harmonies in a very special duo performance - acoustic guitar & voice and percussion - celebrating great Brazilian composers like Dorival Caymmi and Tom Jobim.
Tonight they are joined by CAJ‘s renowned house musicians for an expanded soundscape of this amazing music.
