Way Out West - "The Europeans - Songs & Landscapes" (part of the EFG London Jazz Festival)
Wednesday, November 20th
This exciting concert presents an evening of great jazz realising European themes and connections with Nette Robinson singing songs composed by great European jazz art-ists with Tim Whitehead and Tony Woods on saxophones fronting a band with a truly European rhythm section featuring Italian pianist Giovanni Mirabassi alongside Dave Jones on bass and Gary Wilcox on drums. Recent political events and influences impact our lives very directly and all of these musicians are inspired by the strongly held notion that they are in constant contact with themselves as Europeans. In this concert the re-nowned Italian pianist Giovanni Mirabassi joins forces with the WOW collective to create new music with a truly European landscape."Mirabassi is in a state of grace when launching himself into pieces ….. weaving an emotional world animated with colours, sensations, nuances completely free and instinctive, deeply his own…." Daniela Floris. Nette Robinson is a superb singer, known for her impressive vocal range, incredible in-tonation and crystal-clear annunciation. "A very fine singer, very accurate, very emotion-al…." - BBC Radio 3. Way Out West is a unique collective of jazz musicians. Diverse im-provisation, performance, arranging, composition, all come to the forefront in full force within regular gigs, as each collective member presents their work with stars from to-day’s jazz scene. 8.00 pm
