Sara Dowling Quintet plays “Nancy Wilson / George Shearing"
Tuesday, April 17th
Sara Dowling – vocals, Nat Steele – vibes, Gabriel Latchin – piano, Marianne Windham – bass, Steve Brown – drums
Gifted with an immensely emotional vocal style, Sara Dowling’s influences are wide and far-reaching. Her first love was her father’s jazz record collection, which helped develop her understanding of the music. More recently, she had a five-star review from Jazz Journal, and Jazz Views voted her recording album of the month.
Sara and her outstanding quintet will be celebrating Britain’s most famous jazz pianist George Shearing – the blind musical protégé who joined Claude Bampton’s band through World War ll and later became a household name in the U.S – including arrangements from the 1961 album The Swingin’s Mutual which featured the George Shearing Quintet with vocalist Nancy Wilson.
