Robert Roope has been a jazz fan for the past 50 years. He set up Retrospecs.co.uk, the online vintage eyewear store 10 years ago as an extension of his optical practice in St Albans, UK.

Retrospecs supplies vintage eyewear from the 50s, 60s and 70s. The idea forBlackEyewear.com evolved out of regular customer requests for bold plastic frames of the 50s, styles that were often worn by jazz musicians of that era.

The BlackEyewear.com collection was so named to embrace the black American jazz musicians who were the starting point of the music.
