Earl Hines

Earl ‘Fatha’ Hines was a star in Chicago in the 20s (when he was in HIS 20s) and continued entertaining right up to his death in 1983.
A contemporary – and in some ways, a rival – of Satchmo, Hines wrote My Monday Date with Louis in mind, sending up the great trumpeter’s immense talent for forgetting appointments.
On tracks such as Rockin’ Chair, you can hear Armstrong’s patience with Fatha begin to wear thin. But it’s generally acknowledged that Earl Hines ranks alongside Art Tatum as one of the greatest pianists in traditional jazz.
And of course, he’s wearing a pair of the greatest specs… but which?
