Hearing Robbie’s interview with Brenda Russell this week has reminded me of how brilliant she is. Not only musically, but she is one of those people that once you meet her, she really stays in your memory – and despite the fact she probably meets lots of people at radio stations every year, she remembered me when I saw her for the second time.
Yes, I’ve been lucky enough to meet her twice – once I went out for dinner with her and some colleagues and some Jazz FM listeners and I think we may have all ended up singing. I remember singing, anyway…
Santosh (from Dome Records) tells a few great stories about just how lovely Brenda Russell is – my favourite is that she got chatting to a taxi driver once and the driver actually ended up calling in on Dome records at a later date to say how much he enjoyed talking to Brenda Russell and what was the perfume she was wearing as he would like to get some for his wife.
And that is another memory of her – great perfume.
