Rosie Kendrick

Rosie Kendrick

Rosie was born with straight hair, but it became curly by the time she was walking. Her first ever prize was winning 'Holiday Princess' aged 8 (it was the curtsey, not the curls or buck teeth), then there were the prizes for knitting and the letter from Sarah Ferguson in response to a letter from Rosie informing her that her silk wedding dress was going to murder thousands of silk worms, and maybe she should rethink her choice of material.

It was obvious from the start that Rosie was going to work in radio, partly because of the above, but also due to her love of a good tune. Family legend has it that Rosie could whistle before she could talk, but anyone who has witnessed how much she natters knows that can't possibly be true.

Rosie's currently on maternity leave.

Interview With Rosie Kendrick

1. What’s your favourite Jazz FM programme and why?

That is a very unfair question! I listen to them all.

2. What’s the first record you bought and where did you buy it?

I don't remember which came first... First single - Bobby Brown ‘Don't Be Cruel’ from WH Smiths in Kingswood, Bristol. First album was ‘Idlewild’ by Everything But The Girl from the same WH Smiths.

3. What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod/in your collection?

I am not embarrassed about anything in my record collection!

4. In your opinion, what's the greatest album of all time and why?

Massive Attack – ‘Blue Lines’. Because it picks me up and chills me out all at the same time. It is pure perfection. It reminds me of fun times and the beach, but I don't know why - I didn't even own a copy for years. I've bought seven copies altogether as I lose or loan them.

5. What’s the best gig you've ever been to?

Dolly Parton, Madonna and Prince were all brilliant. Possibly The Chemical Brothers though, because of the people I was with.

6. What’s your favourite live music venue and why?

Anywhere I can see and get into the groove whilst sitting down. I hate standing up for anything, unless I am dancing. That is definitely better when I stand!

7. Jazz Is...

Something different to everyone.

8. In your opinion, who’s the most inspirational radio presenter of all time and why?

Kevin Greening. He was intelligent and witty and his delivery was understated yet warm. He was an utter joy to listen to. He bought me my alarm clock so I think of him every day when I wake and really miss him - both in person and on the radio.

9. What’s been your most embarrassing moment in radio?

Too many to tell. I am generally quite embarrassing. At least I can't fall over on the radio, which I do a lot in real life...

10. What’s your favourite film and why?

‘Finding Nemo’. No matter how many times I have to watch it, I still find it funny. Also ‘The Cooler’ because it is about true love turning someone's life around, but I don't think I could watch it every day.

11. Who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

My boyfriend's parents. They had both passed away before I met him and I would love to know lots of things about him and his family that he doesn't remember. My dream job would be Dr Who's assistant, so I'd like to invite him - the David Tennant incarnation please, and then my friend Fran because I always think they would make a good couple. My parents, because they are ace, and to meet the in-laws. And my boyfriend, obviously - that would be evil to invite his parents and not him. That's eight – probably enough, and no more would fit around my dinner table.

Hi Rosie, Congratulations on Jazz FM now going national on DAB. It should help to reach many more listeners and the station sounds so much better than in the old days when it was run by GMG. Take care and have fun. Chris.
