Her eight solo albums span over 30 years and she has also worked with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Joni Mitchell, Donna Summer, Yellowjackets and Sting.
In 2005, she co-wrote the score for the Broadway musical version of 'The Color Purple' which earned her and her co-writers Tony and Grammy award nominations.
