2011 was another wonderful year for music.
Michael Franks released his first album in five years. Dave McMurray was back on the scene with his first CD in four years featuring the legendary Bob James.
Some of my favourite sax players delivered the goods too. Steve Cole’s ‘Moonight’ album with orchestra was outstanding and Euge Groove did it again with his album ‘S7ven Large’.
New band Electric Empire from Australia made a mark last year too as did DW3 and the excellent Michael Dunston. I loved the funky vibe of Japanese DJ Shuya Okino‘s ‘Just Do It’ and Nicole Henry‘s outstanding version of Bob Marley’s ‘Waiting In Vain’.
But #1 on my FUSION FLAVOURS BEST OF 2011 Top 20 was ‘Magic’ by Michael Paulo, the one-time saxophonist for Al Jarreau. His album was mixed by top producer Paul Brown and featured the brilliant players Paul Jackson Jr and Harvey Mason. And the 40-piece orchestra was conducted by none other than David Benoit.
All the best for 2012,
Steve
