I first discovered Euge back in 2000 when I first had the debut release ‘Euge Groove’. As soon as I heard the track ‘Sneak a Peek’, I was sold. I have the distinction of being the first guy to play Euge Groove on radio. We did an interview which was aired on Jazz FM whilst he was in the UK on a World tour with Tina Turner back in 2000. He toured again with Tina in 2009.
Born in Maryland USA, he graduated from the University of Miami School of Music in 1984. He also did session work with various pop acts, most noticeably the Miami girl group Expose. He played the sax solo on their #1 hit ‘Seasons Change’, and another on their 1993 hit ‘I’ll Never Get Over You (Getting Over Me)’.
My Track of the Week this week is the title cut from his new CD ‘S7VEN LARGE‘ which is released on the Shanachie label on Tuesday 17th May. Euge has done it again with his infectious and catchy grooves. My personal favorite is ‘Welcome To The Journey’ but I’m also mesmerised by his heartfelt reading of Major Harris’s ‘Love Won’t Let Me Wait’ too. The more you play the album, the better it gets, and it’ll be up there with ‘Sneak a Peek’, ‘Slam Dunk’, ‘Rewind’ and more.
Hear the track all this week on Fusion Flavours and find out more about the man and his music at his website.
Cheers
Steve
