The club currently books two bands a night on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and one band a night from Thursday to Monday. With Sunday lunches (Big Bands and Gospel Choirs) and a special Singers night on Sunday evenings, the 606 Club is a major employer of British jazz and related music artists in the U.K.
The 606 has a late-night supper license which requires non-members to eat a substantial meal in order to be served alcohol, so booking a table for dinner in advance is essential on Fridays and Saturdays. This basement Jazz Club has a reputation for great jazz and fine food with candlelit tables and jazz murals adding to the relaxed ambiance.
Founded as a small 30-seater venue at 606 Kings Road, it established a stellar reputation amongst musicians and audiences.
Eventually it outgrew the original Club and, although it retained the name 606 Club, moved in May 1988 to the present 165-capacity basement site at 90 Lots Road in Chelsea.
The Club originally established a policy of only booking UK-based musicians in order to support the local scene.
In recent years, this has changed with the Club’s new European Exchange initiative and support from Yamaha UK encouraging a rich cross-cultural platform for British and Overseas musicians.

Thursday 3rd 8:30pm HOWARD ALDEN with Special Guest JEANNE GIES. Howard Alden is widely regarded as one of the finest jazz guitarists in the US, having worked prolifically as a leader, co-leader, and versatile sideman on numerous recordings and gigs. He has worked with a stellar list of jazz luminaries including the likes of Woody Herman, Benny Carter, Flip Phillips, Bud Freeman, Kenny Davern, Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, George Van Eps and Scott Hamilton. Howard has been playing the unusual seven-string guitar since 1992, which has imparted an astonishing range and harmonic richness to his already colourful tonal palette, which explains why he won “Best Emerging Talent-Guitar” in the first annual JazzTimes critics’ poll, 1990, and “Talent Deserving Wider Recognition” in the 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996 Downbeat critics’ poll. It was also Howard’s guitar playing that featured in Woody Allen’s classic film (about a jazz guitarist) “Sweet and Lowdown”. Jeanne Gies is a wonderful singer who is well known on the New York jazz circuit. She specialises in working with guitarists and has just released a great album with some of the best players in the states. Her previous album “Mad About the Boy” was widely critically acclaimed with several tracks being selected for use in jazz compilation albums around the world. The gig tonight also features two leading lights of the UK jazz scene, saxophonist Karen Sharp, most recently with the Humphrey Lyttleton band and bass player Simon Woolf. Friday 4th 9:30pm ROLAND PERRIN’S “LIMITED EDITION”. As well as being an impressive and highly experienced jazz pianist, composer and teacher Roland’s World Music credentials are also impeccable. He applies his extremely impressive writing and performing talents to produce music that he describes as “..incorporating irresistible World music grooves within the European….tradition” which culminated in him travelling to Cuba to record his orchestral work “Crossing the Border” with a mix of Cuban Classical, Popular and Jazz musicians. The free spirit of jazz improvisation is woven into his music with textures taken from Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, African and Jewish music. Indispensable to his sound is his exciting collaboration with a fascinating Global mix of musicians that has reached a new maturity and sophistication in his band “Limited Edition”, a combination of vocal and instrumental music with material that is an infectious mix of Roland’s terrific originals and his own arrangements of classic Jazz and Latin standards. The band comprises a special mix of International musicians featuring the wonderful singer “V” (Ghana), Roberto Manzin (Italy) on sax, Curtis Ruiz (Trinidad) on bass and drummer Eduardo Marques (Brazil). Saturday 5th 9:30pm NIGEL HITCHCOCK is unquestionably one of the finest saxophonists of his generation. This multi-award winning musician was lead alto with the NYJO at the age of 12, graduating to busy professional session musician by the time he was 16. He has been a featured player with some of the finest musicians in the World, including work with the likes of Ray Charles, Tom Jones and Robbie Williams and Jazz musicians such as Stan Tracey and Claire Martin. In more recent years he has also added composing and arranging to his accomplishments, including works for full-scale orchestra. Sunday 6th 8:30pm TAMMY WEIS with JAMES BRYAN, AL CHERRY-guitar; BJ COLE – pedal steel guitar. Tammy is a fine Canadian singer, now resident in London, who has been performing to great acclaim in her native Vancouver for some years now. She sings a mix of classic Jazz standards and beautifully crafted originals which she performs with a wonderful sense of melody and swing. Her debut CD, “Legacy”, was well received and led to appearances on national TV and radio as well as gigs at both the Montreal and Vancouver Jazz Festivals and her latest CD “Where I need To Be”, featuring Tammy’s excellent original material written with Grammy Award winning producer Terry Britten, has been received with considerable critical acclaim. She has been heard on Radio stations across the country including Jamie Cullum’s show on BBC Radio Two and was recently nominated for the London Jazz Vocalist Award. Tammy’s UK highlights include performing with Jamie Cullum, Randy Bachman and Bobby McFerrin and singing with Ian Shaw and Lianne Carroll at the Royal Opera house. Monday 7th 8:30pm EUAN BURTON’S “OCCURRENCES” feat WILL VINSON-saxes; MARK McKNIGHT-guitar Double bassist/composer Euan Burton has been a high profile figure on the Scottish Jazz scene for nearly a decade, working with many international jazz heavyweights such as Ari Hoenig and Jonathan Kreisburg. Tonight Euan introduces his new album “Occurrences,” a collection of conceptual compositions full of beautiful and original contemporary jazz ideas. The group consists of Euan’s long term collaborators – all with highly visible international profiles in their own right – including London born, New York-based saxophonist Will Vinson (Kurt Rosenwinkel, Aaron Parks), fast rising Irish guitarist Mark McKnight (Seamus Blake, Sam Yahel), acclaimed Scottish pianist Steve Hamilton (Gary Burton, Earthworks) and James Maddren (Kit Downs, Gwilym Simcock) on drums. Tuesday 8th 8:30pm **606 Club Special** DOMINIC MILLER. Guitarist Dominic Miller is probably best known as Sting’s “right hand man” and co-writer of Shape of My Heart, amongst a number of other co-collaborations. In the 20 years that he has worked with Sting he has appeared with him on over 1,000 live gigs, 8 albums and 5 World Tours. But Dominic’s terrific guitar playing has not been exclusive to Sting by any means. In his early career he worked with Julia Fordham, Phil Collins and The Pretenders, which lead in 1990 to Sting hearing and hiring him. His massive and impressive cv since then includes work with the likes of Level 42, Tina Turner, Backstreet Boys, Youssou N’Dour and Ronan Keating and his fluent, tasteful and highly creative playing continues to be in demand by musicians at the highest level. As well as a sideman Dominic is also a well established leader in his own right with 4 CDs to his name and tonight Dominic will be appearing with his own band which features Mike Lindup (Level 42, Da Lata) keyboards & piano, Nicolas Fiszman (Joe Zawinul, Sting) bass and Rhani Krija (Don Byron, Sting) percussion. This promises to be a very special night and a rare chance to catch this highly respected musician in the intimate atmosphere of the 606 Club. Wednesday 9th 8:30pm “MusicianXchange” – EAST GIPSY BAND unites the stars of the Hungarian jazz scene with those of the Roma folk scene, creating a vivid, passionate and intense musical experience. The players in this sextet are virtuosos, yet their music retains an earthy, folk feel as the authentic Hungarian Gypsy music that forms the basis of their sound goes hand-in-glove with modern jazz. The East Gipsy Band brings together these two trends with astonishing originality and at an extremely high artistic level, while keeping the music approachable and highly entertaining. Featuring Jozsef Balazs on piano, Award Winning saxophonist Gabor Bolla who has a 5-album deal with Europe’s largest jazz record label, award winning violinist Lajos Sarkozi, Krisztian Pecek Lakatos on bass, Elemer Balazs on drums and Volmos Olah on the rarely heard cimbalom. “Elemer is one of the best drummers around right now” Pat Metheny
This gig is part of an ongoing “European Exchange” initiative promoted by the 606 Club to provide a platform for some of the finest European musicians, in return for which the Club arranges for UK based musicians to perform in the home country of the guest artists. In this way it is hoped that the music of these fine players can be brought to a wider audience around Europe.
Thursday 10th JV PRODUCTIONS – CABARET/COMEDY NIGHT** featuring HENNING WEHN. In a change from our usual entertainment the 606 Club has once again teamed up with J V Productions to present award-winning comedian Henning When, self-styled German Comedy Ambassador to the United Kingdom. His passionately delivered, “beautifully crafted diatribes” (Time Out) cover topics ranging from football and the price of second-hand shoes to what the Germans think of our beloved ‘Allo ‘Allo series and why humour is overrated and stand-up comedy pointless. Friday 11th 9:30pm MANTECA feat MARTHA ACOSTA. This vibrant 8-piece salsa band, formed by famed Colombian singer Martha Acosta, has been “salsa-ing” across the UK and Europe for over 7 years now. Martha, best known for her work with her all woman Latin band “Candela” and Roberto Pla’s “Latin Ensemble”, drives the band along with her searing Latin vocals and powerhouse personality. And she is ably supported by some of the finest Latin musicians on the scene, including David Oliver (piano), Shanti Paul Jayasinha (trumpet), Vancho Manoilovich (drums), Satin Singh (percussion), Ben Sommers (sax) and Robin Harris (trombone). Saturday 12th TRUDY KERR BAND feat. DICK PEARCE-trpt and Special Guest INGRID JAMES-vocals. Trudy is renowned as one of the UK’s top jazz vocalists, regularly selling out shows at prestigious venues and festivals around Europe and her native Australia. With 9 widely acclaimed albums to her name (and a 10th soon to be released) plus a successful vocal teaching career, Trudy is one of the scene’s busiest singers. Primarily performing gorgeous mainstream jazz with a bias towards bop, her highly skilled, nimble voice is a real pleasure to hear. Trudy’s Special Guest tonight, making a rare visit to the UK, is the wonderful Australian vocalist Ingrid James. Ingrid’s performances at Festivals and Clubs throughout Australia plus various appearances on ABC national television together with numerous gigs in European and US venues have confirmed her reputation as a leading light of the Australian Jazz scene. Sunday 13th SUNDAY LUNCHTIME SPECIAL (1:30pm-3:30pm). THE **606 GOSPEL GROUP** – Stevie Wonder Birthday Special! Under the auspices of 606 regulars, keyboardist Miko Giedroyc and bass player Andre Gabriel in association with brilliant Gospel singer and choral director Tracey Campbell, we present our very own 10 piece Gospel ensemble, the “606 Gospel Group”. This is a great group comprising a 4 piece band accompanying a 6 voice Gospel choir under Tracey’s direction. The choir is drawn from a pool of some of the finest Gospel singers on the scene with some really terrific singers signed up to work with us. As today is Motown legend Stevie Wonder’s Birthday, the choir are performing a special Stevie tribute gig to mark the occasion – it promises to be quite an afternoon! And don’t forget this is our family day so children are more than welcome.

8:30pm DANA GILLESPIE and THE LONDON BLUES BAND. Dana Gillespie has been a major figure on the UK music scene for over 40 years. Starting in the folk scene in the mid 60’s she graduated to pop and glam-rock (fortunately short lived!) before settling on the musical love of her life – the Blues, which she describes as “..my first musical love because it’s earthy, spiritual and honest”. Since the late 70s she has been singing, recording and touring with Blues musicians from all over the World, including a 2-year stint in America working with some of the finest players on the scene. She has recorded over 60 albums for various prestigious labels including Pye, Decca, RCA and her current label, Ace, and has performed on every continent. Highly regarded on the World Blues scene she was voted “Top British Female Blues Vocalist” by the British Blues Connection and Blueprint Magazine 5 times and has now been elevated to their Hall Of Fame. And just in case you have any doubts how good she is suffice it to say that Bob Dylan invited her to perform as support on his ’97 UK tour as he has been a fan of hers since the 60’s. Her current backing band, The London Blues Band, is a terrific high energy band featuring the cream of UK blues musicians including Dino Baptiste on piano, Jake Zeitz on guitar and Mike Paice on sax and harmonica and the material is a mix of classic blues covers and Dana’s great originals, which are so good it’s hard to tell them apart! This is fantastic authentic Blues from one of Europe’s finest exponents and not to be missed. “It’s an index of Gillespie’s empathy with her material that the originals blend so seamlessly with the classic covers…she literally beats the pants off anything done by a British bluesman these last 10 years” Essential Blues
Monday 14th 8:30pm THE TOMMY BLAIZE BAND. Liverpudlian Tommy Blaize is a fantastic singer/keyboardist who is widely admired and respected throughout the music business. Although for many years an unseen figure behind the scenes, his voice is familiar to millions from work with the likes of Tina Turner, Craig David, Brand New Heavies, Joe Cocker, Gary Barlow, Marti Pellow and Lulu and from TV ads such as Coca Cola, Levis, British Gas & British Airways. Considered one of the most in-demand session singers on the scene, he has been featured on numerous film and TV soundtracks, Tommy has been heard here at the Club with, amongst others, Madeline Bell and Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams). However, more recently Tommy has been finally achieving some hugely deserved recognition as a brilliant singer in his own right after his appearances as the resident singer on BBC TV’s “Strictly Come Dancing” (oh, that singer!). A great guy and a fantastic performer it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome Tommy to the Club this evening with his own fantastic band, featuring fellow “Strictly” band members Dave Arch-piano, Trevor Barry-bass, Andy Caine-guitar/vocals, Paul Dunne-guitar and Ian Thomas-drums playing a selection of classic Groove and R&B standards with possibly the odd Jazz tune thrown in for good measure. Tommy and the Band will be featuring music from their first album as a band “Don’t Ya Love Life” so expect plenty of fireworks and some very Special Surprise Guests. Tuesday 15th 7:30pm DAN REINSTEIN. American born but British educated, I first met Dan at the old Club when he was a medical undergraduate. Even then he was an impressive player, and after taking time off his medical studies to go to the Berklee School of Music he became even better. He returned to the USA in the early 90s where he became one of the world’s leading experts in laser eye surgery (he’s now officially Professor Reinstein). But he never stopped playing, and when he returned to London to live and work it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again. Also featured tonight will be the fluent and impressive trumpet of Paul Jayasinha and the excellent piano playing of Tim Lapthorn.
10:15pm DILL KATZ is appearing later with his regular quartet, playing the more contemporary side of the spectrum. Dill, frequently referred to as a “bass legend”, is one of the most experienced players on the scene today, having pioneered the use of the fretless bass in the mid sixties, and whose work includes stints with Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, Barbara Thompson’s band “Paraphernalia” and Afro/Jazz band “District Six”. This gig also features the excellent harmonica playing of Patrick Bettison. “Superior jazz-rock quartet led by ex-Nucleus electric bassist Katz” Time Out
Wednesday 16th 7:30pm MICHELE DREES’S “RHYTHM TAP & JAZZ QUARTET” feat. JOHN CRAWFORD-piano, SCOTT CRIPPS-tap. This unique ensemble is led by drummer Michele Drees, who includes work with Kirsty MacColl, Marc Almond, Seal, KD Lang, Susanne Vega and Mica Paris, as well as numerous jazz luminaries, on a star-studded CV. The band plays great jazz and Latin tunes with an original twist – the addition of a tap dancer as percussion! Adding energy, movement and striking percussive sounds, this line-up manages to perform favourite classic tunes in an entirely novel way. Michele’s Special Guest this evening is Scott Cripps whose style and fast footwork are based on rhythm more than dance and are influenced by musicians such as Buddy Rich, David Garabaldi, Oscar Peterson and Monty Alexander. 10:15pm BARRY GREEN. A wonderful modern jazz pianist whose fluent and melodic playing has made a significant impact on the UK Jazz scene. Barry includes the likes of Anita Wardell, Christine Tobin (both BBC Jazz Award winners), Bobby Wellins and Ingrid Laubrock on an eclectic and impressive cv. Really excellent. “..Green’s work can be both intricate and assertive and is constantly inventive.” Jazz UK “The one who really shone was pianist Barry Green. Thursday 17th 8:30-11:30 Ed Bentley QUARTET featuring JIM MULLEN; DAVE LEWIS. US-born Ed Bentley has been resident in the UK since the early 70’s and has carved an illustrious career on the international Jazz scene as a fine pianist and organist. His fluent “hard bop” influenced playing has been heard alongside the likes of Deniece Williams, Irene Reed (from the Count Basie Band), Percy Sledge and Bobby Watson. With 7 albums to his name he has performed with his band at the likes of Ronnie Scott’s, The Jazz Cafe and the Royal Festival Hall as well as clubs and festivals around Europe. His work with leading International artists has taken him to Australia, the Far East and Africa as well as the USA. Tonight, Ed will be featuring his great organ-led quartet featuring iconic UK guitarist Jim Mullen (“Morrisey Mullen”, Claire Martin) and saxophonist Dave Lewis (John Martyn, John Mayall, Eric Clapton). Friday 18th 9:30-01:30 IMAANI A terrific singer in the Soul/R&B tradition Imaani’s cv is long and impressive. She first came to prominence as the UK’s 1998 entrant to the Eurovision Song contest (one of the better choices!) where she was runner up and went on to produce a highly successful single that charted around the World. She then moved on to work with Dub Conspiracy (with whom she again charted). Her worldwide tours, television, live and recorded output includes work with the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Carleen Anderson, Michael Bolton, Lulu and Beverley Knight. She was until recently the lead singer with the iconic band “Incognito”, with whom she has had a long association and she continues to perform with them whenever “motherhood” duties allow. Her band, not surprisingly, is full of some of the best “Groove” players on the scene, including guitarist Dave Ital (Level 42, Tom Jones, Beverly Knight, Bobby Womack) and keyboardist Alex Bennett (Corrine Bailey Rae). A powerful and charismatic vocalist this is a rare chance to hear this enormously experienced and highly regarded singer perform with her fantastic band here at the Club. “the magnificent vocals of Imaani, who weaves her magic over a backdrop of funk guitar and old-school synths” DJ Times
Saturday 19th 9:30pm GILAD ATZMON. Gilad is a wonderful sax and clarinet player with a powerful sound and unique approach. His fiery, immensely fluent, playing and remarkable technique have established him as one of the most talented saxophonists in World music, performing a mix of classic Jazz standards and originals with an energy and enthusiasm that is hugely infectious. His most recent CDs, along with his recently published books, set him apart as one of the most original and creative players around. Passionate about both his music and his politics Gilad’s gigs are always stimulating both musically and intellectually. Monday 21st 8:30pm FRANK WALDEN QUARTET. Since turning professional in 1997 saxophonist Frank Walden’s career has spanned jazz, soul and pop at the highest level. A member of Amy Winehouse’s band from 2007 until her untimely death in 2011, Frank has also toured with the likes of Mark Ronson, The James Taylor Quartet, the Cuban Brothers, Keane, Russell Watson, Martha Reeves and Edwin Starr. He is currently the saxophone player with the great (Sir) Tom Jones. A wonderful player with a fluid and creative style Frank is probably best known at the Club as the saxophonist with pianist Simon Mulligan’s quartet. The gig tonight will feature a mix of Jazz standards and more contemporary material with the occasional original thrown in for good measure. This is playing of the most impressive standard and is highly recommended.
Tuesday 22nd 8:30pm COLIN TOWNS’ “BLUE TOUCH PAPER”. Keyboard player Colin Towns first appeared on the scene as part of the Rock band “Gillan” in the late 70’s, following work in a variety of musical fields. But by the early 80’s his talent for writing, first generated in “Gillan” and honed by his study of orchestration, led him to pursue soundtrack composing for film and TV full time. Since then he has composed music for innumerable TV and film projects. However, his passion for Jazz has never been far from his musical life and in the late ’90s he formed the remarkable 19-piece big band the Colin Towns Mask Orchestra, a band that has since garnered many rave reviews and is now considered to be an iconic force in the contemporary big band field. He is also the current ‘composer in residence’ for the NDR Big Band in Hamburg. Tonight however, Colin is bringing to the Club his latest creation, a 6 piece “Anglo-German” collaboration that he describes as a band that “transcends musical boundaries” and they certainly do that! Fusing jazz, rock, film music, classical and electronica this sextet is vibrant, powerful and unpredictable. Tonight the band are performing tracks from their debut album “Stand Well Back” which features Colin’s writing and arranging and with an A-list line-up that includes Mark Lockheart (Polar Bear, Loose Tubes) on sax, Chris Montague (Troyka) on guitar, Edward Maclean on bass, Stephen Maass on percussion and Benny Greb on drums we are really looking forward to this very special gig from some very special musicians! “attention grabbing combination of jazz language and rock edge” All About Jazz
Wednesday 23rd 7:30pm Russ Henderson MBE. Russ is a wonderful Afro-Caribbean pianist who celebrated his 80th birthday at the Club some time ago, but who still plays as if he’s 21. Recently awarded an MBE in recognition of the wonderful work he has done for the UK music scene over the years he is an accomplished steel pan player as well as pianist and one of the founders of the Notting Hill Carnival. His brand of mainstream piano playing is still truly infectious, and everyone just has fun. “..a primary force in jazz, calypso and steel band in England for over half a century” Calypsoworld.
10:15pm “trio” featuring John Critchinson, DAVE CLIFF, ALEC DANKWORTH. John Critchinson was Ronnie Scott’s pianist for more than 12 years, and his strong, swinging, hard-bop piano playing has graced many a fine gig. One of the most established and highly regarded pianists on the scene, John’s high energy, driving, Jazz trio playing is legendary. His jokes are great too! Dave Cliff is generally considered to be one of the finest straight ahead guitarists in Europe. He has accompanied many visiting artists, the great American tenor player Scott Hamilton going on record saying that Dave was one of the finest jazz guitarists he had ever worked with. Alec Dankworth is a terrific musician who first came to prominence with his father, John, but has since gone on to become one of the most respected acoustic bass players on the scene today, including a lengthy stint with the band of Jazz icon Dave Brubeck. “John Critchinson…one of Britain’s finest jazz pianists” Guardian
Thursday 24th 8:30pm EILEEN HUNTER and STEVE BROOKSTEIN “TOGETHER”. Friday 25th 9:30pm SAMARA feat JANDIRA SILVA “Samara” is a six piece jazz/latin group which I lead on sax and flute, and suffice it to say we all think the guys in the band are just great! The pianist Neil Angilley works with Vanessa Mae, Shirley Bassey and “Down to the Bone”, Dill Katz, the bass player is visiting professor at the Guildhall, Nic France the drummer has worked with just about everyone, including Dave Gilmore (Pink Floyd) and Bill Withers, the percussionist, Dawson Miller is generally recognised as one of the most versatile and experienced players on the scene, and the singer Jandira Silva is considered to be one of the finest Brazilian vocalists currently working in Europe. Saturday 26th 9:30pm Bobby Wellins is considered to be one of the icons of British modern jazz. Originally from Glasgow, Bobby was on one of the biggest selling jazz albums ever produced in this country, Stan Tracey’s “Under Milk Wood”, recorded in the late sixties. After taking a sabbatical from the music for 7 years, Bobby came back in the early eighties to lead the Charlie Watts Big band as well as a number of small groups, which re-established him as one of the finest melodic saxophonists in the world. Over the last couple of years Award Winning Jazz flute player Gareth Lockrane has established himself as one of the finest flautists in Europe with a string of high profile appearances alongside the likes of the James Taylor Quartet, Natalie Williams and the late, great, Bheki Mseleku. It is a measure of Gareth’s growing International standing that he was named “Rising Star on Flute” in the prestigious Downbeat Critics Poll (USA). This afternoon Gareth will be fronting his 18 piece big band which will perform mainly his arrangements of a mix of originals and classic Jazz standards. Given Gareth’s standing on the UK scene it’s not surprising that his Big Band attracts some of the finest players around, including the likes of Alex Garnett (Van Morrison), Sam Mayne (BBC Big Band), and Mike Outram (BBC Big Band). 8:30pm GEORGIA MANCIO is a marvellously talented Award-winning singer who has been working steadily on the Jazz scene for some years now. She has a lovely vocal tone and direct style that lends itself perfectly to her swinging and sophisticated set. It’s a measure of her impressive ability that she won the Brussels International Young Jazz Singers Award, beating 85 contestants from around the World. The repertoire she performs is an eclectic mix of Jazz standards, gentle Latin and infectious Brazilian music and not surprisingly she has a wonderful band accompanying her. Monday 28th 8:30pm DICK PEARCE QUARTET Trunpet and flugel player Dick Pearce is probably best known for his work with the Ronnie Scott Quintet, with whom he toured the world for 14 years. During his 30 years at the top of the British scene he has played with the likes of Keith Tippett, Mike Westbrook, Don Weller and Stan & Clark Tracey gaining a reputation as a subtle, lyrical and melodic player. Considered to be one of the UK’s leading jazz trumpeters he has in the last few years established an impressive name for his own quartet. A rare outing at the Club for this iconic musician and one well worth catching. Tuesday 29th 7:30pm ALEXANDER STEWART feat NATHANIEL FACEY-sax. Young singer Alexander Stewart is already creating a buzz as one of the most talented vocalists of his generation. With a voice rooted in the classic Ratpack tradition he makes the genre his own, with interesting song choices performed in a high-energy style. He has already played at high-profile jazz venues and festivals around the country, including opening last year’s late night jazz series at the Royal Albert Hall’s Elgar Room, and has made numerous appearances on radio and TV. Alex’s band is not surprisingly quite brilliant, including MOBO-award winning Empirical saxophonist Nathaniel Facey and pianist Alex Webb. 10:15pm PAUL CARMICHAEL BAND Paul has been in demand as a bass player since the late 70s, working with the likes of Allan Holdsworth on the seminal album “IUO”, Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, Barbara Thomson’s “Paraphernalia” and Steve Topping’s “Time and Distance” and is now a well-respected producer as well. He has often been heard at the Club playing with the wonderful Soul/Jazz singer Vanessa Haynes, but tonight we welcome him with his own band playing energetic world/jazz rhythms and sounds that range from hard funk to salsa and Latin, with ballads, rocky guitars, and some dynamic vocals too. Wednesday 30th 8:30-11:30 “MusicianXchange” - JULI FABIAN AND PETER SARIK.
Excellent Hungarian singer Julianna Fabian and pianist Peter Sarik will perform tonight, firstly as a duo and then with their great London-based band members as a quartet. Juli has already made a huge impact on the European jazz scene with her mature performances, distinctive Jazz style and impressive flair for improvisation. Twice a finalist in the Shure Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival, her combination of Jazz standards and contemporary material combined with effortless vocal improvisations have made her a favourite of audiences around Europe. Wonderful pianist Peter Sarik has won countless awards in his native Hungary, including the National Radio Award for best band in 2007 as well as winning various prizes for his many compositions. The musical chemistry between this duo really is a treat to listen to. This gig is part of an ongoing “European Exchange” initiative promoted by the 606 Club to provide a platform for some of the finest European musicians, in return for which the Club arranges for UK- based musicians to perform in the home country of the guest artists. In this way it is hoped that the music of these fine players can be brought to a wider audience around Europe.
Thursday 31st 8:30-11:30 - NICOLAS MEIER. Multi-award winning Swiss guitarist Nicolas Meier is one of the rising stars of the UK jazz scene. Following his scholarship to Berklee in Boston, USA he returned to Switzerland in 1998 but a few years later decided to settle in London. He has toured extensively in Europe, sharing the bill with the likes of Elvin Jones, Brad Meldau, Trilok Gurtu and Bill Evans and in 2006 his band won the prestigious Grand Prize Of The Jury and 1st Prize Jazz Guitar at Jazz a Juan Revelations. Nicolas draws on a multitude of influences, Jazz, Flamenco, Latin and middle-eastern music and his trademark sound, as heard on his Naim albums, is a mixture of Pat Metheny influenced jazz & spicy Turkish & world music rhythms. He plays acoustic, fretted and fretless nylon and steel stings guitar, glissentar and baglama, crossing the borders of jazz, flamenco and oriental music to create a music that is at once flowing and beautiful, powerful and unique. The band tonight also features Patrick Bettison on bass, Laurence Lowe, drums and Demi Garcia, percussion with Special Guest A-list violinist Lizzie Ball who has performed extensively around the world, and is the current leader of Nigel Kennedy’s “Orchestra of Life”. “Meier’s technique is phenomenal. Sunday 13th SUNDAY LUNCHTIME SPECIAL (1:30pm-3:30pm). THE **606 GOSPEL GROUP** – Stevie Wonder “birthday special”! Under the auspices of 606 regulars, keyboardist Miko Giedroyc and bass player Andre Gabriel in association with brilliant Gospel singer and choral director Tracey Campbell, we present our very own 10 piece Gospel ensemble, the “606 Gospel Group”. This is a great group comprising a 4 piece band accompanying a 6 voice Gospel choir under Tracey’s direction. The choir is drawn from a pool of some of the finest Gospel singers on the scene with some really terrific singers signed up to work with us. As today is Motown legend Stevie Wonder’s Birthday, the choir are performing a special Stevie tribute gig to mark the occasion – it promises to be quite an afternoon! And don’t forget this is our family day so children are more than welcome.
