Coming up on this week's shows (w/c 3rd August)

Our “FEATURED ARTISTS” this week will include the legendary JOHNNY MATHIS who’s voice sounds as sweet as ever and the late great GROVER WASHINGTON JR. Who influenced so many saxophonists over the years. Also one of my personal favourites BOZ SCAGGS, I still remember “Silk Degrees” like it was yesterday!

For you guitar lovers look no further than ex-Jefferson Starship guitarist CRAIG CHAQUICO, plus we take a track from his new release “Follow the sun” and last but not least SADE, be sure to look out for a new CD from the lady before the end of the year!

My “TRACK OF THE WEEK” comes from new soul vocalist GIANNA. The track is the gorgeous “My Everything” from her new CD “Something True” which has just been released on Expansion Records. The album is produced and features Kendall Duffie from Kloud 9.

We have a montage of excellent “NEW MUSIC” and forthcoming releases from JESSY J “Tropical Rain”, also JOE does an amazing version of Marvin’s “Come Get To This”. We have new trumpet player CINDY BRADLEY and her track “Bloom” and my old friend JIMMY SOMMERS and his version of Norah Jones “Don’t Know Why”. There’s also PAUL TAYLOR’s new single “Burnin’”, Gospel keyboard player BEN TANKARD and a touch of “Heavenly vibes” plus more tracks from the JAZZ FM CD “The SOUND OF JAZZ FM 2009”

Just after three we bring some “soul” to the show, we call it “THE BREEZE” – it’s smooth jazz with a touch of soul. I see it as your chance to sit back, relax and enjoy some delights from BENET, JOHNNY GILL, BONEY JAMES, NORMAN CONNERS, JEFFERY OSBORNE, EUGE GROOVE, FRANKIE BEVERLY & MAZE to name a few!

We also bring you “COOL JAZZ” cuts from MICHAEL BUBLE, VANESSA RUBIN, DIANA KRALL (check out her DVD “Live in Rio” – it’s awesome!) Still one of my favourite tracks of the moment is DIANE BIRCH’s “Nothing But a Miracle”. She’s just performed on David Letterman Show in the US.

TRAINCHA is a vocalist from Holland who has taken the “Bacharach” songbook and made it her own she has just come back from the North Sea Jazz Festival as guest of Burt himself! Check it out www.traincha.com . We also play an exciting new vocalist – LESLIE MENDELSON – who’s a cross between Madeleine Peyroux and Rickie Lee Jones with a great new track called “Hit the Spot”.

On August 2nd the Sunday Shimmer glimmers and glows with the rich tones of the baritone saxophone etheral piano music and a haunting version of Robert Wyatt’s song Shipbuilding.

coming up on Tuesday….Kurt Elling puts his voice into a soaring version of a Pat Metheny classic and we’re celebrating a summer night with Keith Jarrett’s fab Standards trio

Coming up on the 2nd August show

It’s the start of Incognito month on my show ahead of their 30th Anniversary concert at the Indigo on the 22nd. Also something very new and tasty from Smokey Robinson and Joss Stone, a track by Raul Midon featuring Stevie Wonder, plus vintage spins by The Controllers (who come to London in August), Evelyn Champagne King and Freda Payne. Then, in the Jazz Lounge at 6.30, the artist who inspired me to abbreviate my own surname in 1980- Richard Tee. I met his wife Eleana Tee who introduced herself to me as ‘family’ and after Richard died she married Jimmy Cobb who is in London soon at The Tower Festival. I then worked with Jimmy to put out his solo album out in the UK on the label I own with Richard Searling. Often when people call the office they ask for Richard Tee.
